Network on evidence-based physical activity in old age (PhysAgeNet). COST Action CA20104.
Проф. А. Мельник входить до складу Керуючого комітету проекту.
Description
Sedentary lifestyle in old age is associated with increased risk of chronic and disabling diseases, premature mortality, and substantial economic burden for society. Increase in physical activity (PA), on the other hand, may compensate negative effects of ageing and reduce inactivity costs. However, not all exercise regimens are universally effective, and Inter-individual differences in responses to PA exist. Therefore, there is an urgent need for creating “tailored” exercise programmes that will fit the specific needs of the various and diverse ageing populations.
A critical step towards this goal is embracing an evidence-based medicine (EBM) approach where conceptual challenges and pitfalls in basic research and clinical research on ageing and physical activity could be identified and addressed. Unmet needs and gaps in research and practice that currently hinder successful implementation of EBM for training of older adults are:
- Lack of consolidated research information needed for designing optimal, feasible and effective exercise programs for various target groups;
- Exclusion of disabled, low income and isolated older adults both research trials and exercise interventions;
- Lack of real-world conditions studies over long periods;
- Limited use of technological innovations for assessing, applying and enhancing exercise programs in old populations.
The main aim of the COST Action PhysAgeNet is to establish a sustainable network that will foster evidence-based research and practice of physical activity in older adults and will enhance integration of innovative ICT solutions based on open data consolidated research information, in order to promote health and reduce the burden of inactivity in ageing populations.

Future-Proofing Blockchain & Cryptocurrencies Against Growing Vulnerabilities & Q-Day Threats with Quantum-Safe Ledger Technology; European Innovation Council, HORIZON-EIC-2024-PATHFINDEROPEN-01, Horizon Europe, EU.
Abstract
Blockchain/DLT is projected to be a $3 trillion industry by 2030, although the cryptocurrency market cap already crossed $3 trillion in 2021. With one billion users using 380 exchanges, the security of cryptocurrencies remains a major concern as billions are lost to hackers every year. A record $14 billion was lost in 2021, and $3 billion was stolen in 2022. Cryptocurrency hacks negatively impact cryptocurrency markets, introducing volatility. Each major scam/hack incident results in a significant price dip for most cryptocurrencies, decelerating the growth of the blockchain economy. The impending existential threat from quantum computers further amplifies existing blockchain vulnerabilities. While there’s no reprieve yet from the scam/hack-prone blockchain economy, quantum resilience is aggressively pursued by postquantum cryptography
(PQC) researchers despite all 82 candidate PQCs failing NIST’s standardization initiative since 2016. As PQC has no role in combating inherent vulnerabilities, securing over 1,000 existing blockchains against scammers/hackers remains a top priority for this industry. This research proposes a novel Quantum-safe Ledger Technology (QLT) framework that deploys an award-winning Zero Vulnerability Computing (ZVC) technology to secure DLTs/cryptocurrencies and exchanges from current vulnerabilities and protect them from the impending Q-day threats from future quantum computers. As blockchain-agnostic technology, QLT can be easily adapted to secure any blockchain or crypto exchange. Backed by a multidisciplinary team of experts, our robust plan is built on solid milestones, from research and development to practical application, ensuring that our visionary idea is not just conceivable but fully achievable within the timeframe of this proposal.

Absolute Zero Trust (AZT) Architecture for Future-Ready Quantum-Safe Computing; HORIZON-CL3-2024-CS-01.
Abstract
Cybercrime is projected to cost a whopping $23.8 Trillion by 2027. This is essentially because there’s no computer network that’s not vulnerable. Foolproof cybersecurity of a connected computer is considered practically impossible because computers are inherently designed to grant
third-party permissions to all software vendors for a good reason– allowing applications to run. Bad actors exploit these permissions to infect computers with malware. AZT addresses the growing cybersecurity crisis by introducing an innovative, encryption-agnostic framework that eliminates
vulnerabilities inherent in traditional systems by removing third-party permissions and obliterating attack surfaces. It ensures robust, energy-efficient, and inherently secure architecture that redefines cybersecurity, offering a scalable, future-proof solution. Three proofs-of-concept validate
the AZT framework's scalability, resilience, and future-ready applicability in mitigating quantum computing threats as it transitions from theory to reality in its ability to break existing cryptographic systems presents an unavoidable challenge. AZT’s encryption-agnostic design pre-empts such risks, securing digital infrastructures against contemporary and emerging threats.
Aligned with HORIZON-CL3-2024-CS-01-01 objectives, this initiative enhances hardware/software security, enables secure testing environments, and establishes certifiable components with minimal maintenance. Delivering disruptive, policy-free Zero-Trust, compliance-ready systems sets a
benchmark for sustainable, resilient, and future-oriented cybersecurity solutions, safeguarding critical infrastructure across sectors.

EuroSPEX-MH: European Sport and Exercise Data Bank for mental health, COST, EU
Abstract
Modern sport and exercise sciences (SPEX) generate massive amounts of raw data, metadata, and data products. Making research data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR) is essential to verify and build on previous research findings and to optimise the reuse of research
data.
This would make SPEX realise its large potential for contributing to mental health, which is a rising burden for all ages, accelerated by the pandemic. There is evidence for the benefit of physical activity in general. Analysing pooled data harbours a large potential for specialised and personalised recommendations, displayed in modern formats.
However, SPEX is the “University in a nutshell”, thus research questions, data and methods are very diverse and have to be “combined” somehow, in particular, with regards to the high complexity/diversity.
Most SPEX researchers don’t share data and don’t analyse it as it should be (and would be possible). This is a barrier for scientific breakthroughs and for meeting society’s needs above. One of the main reason is that the discipline-specific requirements are missing or incomplete – often data sharing and collections from different studies do not make sense. Thus, the main aim of the prosed network EuroSPEX-MH is to create a sustainable European Sport and Exercise Data Bank by establishing standardized open data protocols, showcasing their value for mental health promotion through exemplary applications, educating stakeholders, securing long-term capacity for continued development and maintenance, and thus contributing to fighting a major health burden.
